If your family has a background of heart disease , you would do well to learn all you can about heart disease; it’s cause, symptoms, and treatment. Medical studies have shown there is a direct relationship between heart disease and exercise.  By including a regular exercise program into your lifestyle, you have approximately a 47% less risk of getting heart disease, and you cut in half the possibility you will ever experience a heart attack.  Consult with your doctor first about your heart disease and exercise, before you ever start on an exercise program.

You also raise your HDL (high density lipoproteins - good cholesterol) by physical activity.  HDL has the ability of picking up cholesterol and removing it from the body.  On the negative side LDL (Low density lipoproteins - bad cholesterol) on the other hand are not good for the system.   LDL clings to the blood cell walls and can create blockages in your arteries, which can lead to you having a heart attack or stroke.  This is known as arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries.

Value Of Exercise For Prevention Of Heart Disease

The heart gets stronger with exercise just like any other muscle in the body.  With exercise your heart will pump blood through your system more easily.   It is commonly known that 30 minutes or so of fairly brisk physical activity three or four times a week or even every day—will do wonders to keep you healthy and strong.   Reducing stress, preventing osteoporosis, increasing your bodily strength and endurance; and of course making you look younger, are all great benefits you receive from regular exercise.

The brain also benefits greatly from vigorous physical activity.   Even brisk walking increases blood circulation throughout your body and increases your oxygen levels.  For the elderly, studies have shown that their memory skills were improved by exercise such as walking.  Research has found that 20 to 30 minutes of moderate physical activity gives the greatest increase of endorphins in the brain.

The body’s natural pain reliever are endorphins.   In order to get the metabolic benefits to your body from exercise you need at least fifteen to twenty minutes of sustained activity.  If you experience heart pains or other bodily pains from physical exertion that is a sign you are pushing your body to hard.

Are you watching too much TV and don’t realize that heart disease and exercise, lack of exercise that is, greatly increases your chances of heart disease?  Being a couch potato is a huge risk factor in favour of you getting some sort of heart disease.  It does not matter if you have been or are a couch potato presently.  What really matters is, it is never to late to change your lifestyle for the better.  Of course if you have any heart conditions, consult with your doctor about your exercise and heart disease solutions.
